Mantra meditation started to become a part of my life about two years ago here in Toronto…I began going to gatherings at a place in Kensington Market every Friday night on and off for a period of time. I would bask in the magical presence of sound vibration that was created by all of the people that attended. The atmosphere was very calming and relaxing and the people that surrounded me were all so humble and kind. . .
I couldn’t get enough of it. Most of the words on the chanting card they gave me I did not at all know how to pronounce. The wonderful thing was that we mainly focused on chanting that, so I got to take part almost the whole time.
In between the two chants we had a little break where we would have a sweet treat and some tea or water and get to talk with others that were there. . . it was nice to have the opportunity to get to know people that I was creating these beautiful sounds with…then we did more of the chanting.
At the end I felt so light and uplifted. I didn’t know exactly why, but all I could think was that being a part of the sound, hearing and saying those words over and over had a healing effect.
After the feeling I got and the energy I felt I received from going just a few times, I continued to go on a weekly basis. Now I cannot imagine my life without it. . .my stress levels are lowered and my life is flowing much more smoothly. I get the opportunity to express myself through voice with an ever-changing group of familiar and new people and receive the healing benefits of the sounds we create.
I am so thankful for the mantra meditation coming into my life and would highly recommend it to anyone that needs to just get out of the craze of the city and take a break and receive some healing vibrations.
