My life has forever changed since I was fortunate enough to be invited to an introductory meditation class taught by Madhavendra and Ron of Meditation Toronto in 2007. I was searching, as most people are, for peace of mind and happiness. I tried to find happiness through drugs, alcohol, and the opposite sex. My highs were always followed by lows.
I took up the daily meditation practices I was taught and continued them whilst travelling abroad. The meditation helped me to feel safe when I was facing anxious situations. I found that the more I engaged myself in mantra meditation the more I became attracted to it. And for the first time in my life I felt at peace in my heart and mind. I can’t imagine a day without it.
The first time I was at a Kirtan I experienced an entire gamut of emotions – it felt like coming home. During the Kirtan meditation I closed my eyes and just focused on the sound and melody of the mantras and repeated what I heard. It was so natural, uplifting, and effortless to chant.
Now I attend the Sunday evening group meditation regularly. It is so nice to see whole families meditating together and to know that this is something I can share with my friends and family. Young or old, it doesn’t matter. Meditation is sublime for everyone at every stage of life.
I only hope that more people are as fortunate as I have been to receive this opportunity and to welcome meditation into their life.
